ETEC 612 Final Project, AECT Standards & Feedback
Managing Virtual Group Collaboration with Wiggio
In distance education, virtual teams are formed to work on assigned group projects and can be an effective instructional strategy which encourages collaborative, creative, and innovative work. Furthermore, collaboration extends beyond the classroom. In fact, skilled collaboration is a necessary asset for all areas of life, personal, social, academic, and professional. In order to succeed in a virtual group project environment, instructional designers, instructors, and learners must consider the goals, objectives, resources, and strategies. More specifically, Web 2.0 collaboration tools.
While online group work has useful benefits, it also has some challenges. Some of the challenges include data management, communication, and lack of social interaction. Exploring tools which provide a resolution to these challenges is a necessity for creating a successful and satisfactory learning environment. Wiggio is a tool that can be the answer to the challenges of virtual group collaboration.
We individually selected a topic relating to distance education, researched the topic, and created a Web site using Weebly which provided an introduction, background, annotated resources, professional standards, and additional references. Peer collaboration during the design and development stages provided valuable critical feedback to assure a product which meets learner objectives.

Feedback
Instructor Feedback:
"Excellent Site! You went above and beyond with your videos! Your graphics are great, resources are relevant and you found wonderful standards."
Peer Feedback 1:
"Wow, Laureen! Great job! You really came through producing an awesome website from your early ideas on the project. I am glad that I was in your critical friends group, and then am able to peer review your project! I like your topic idea: "Managing Virtual Group Collaboration with Wiggio." Your topic is appropriate for our class since it is a tool that can greatly aid in distance education!
You came up with a very eye-catching design! I like the picture you used with all of the shadow people collaborating. Being online, we kind of are like shadow people! You can see that some people have computers or briefcases which ties in nicely. It is very easy to navigate around your website, and I am very impressed by the amount of detail you have included throughout the website. You offer many videos, resources, and links making all of the information very accessible!
Your website is a great service for people who may want to form a virtual team or group, and want to learn about an internet tool that can help their team find success. I have personally used wiggio a number of times for our ETEC courses, and completely agree that Wiggio can be a lifesaver when it comes to keeping everyone on track! It is also a great way to keep track of who has done what and what still needs to be done."
Peer Feedback 2:
"I saw videos! It was great to see a site incorporating so much new media.
Bur mainly the website was focused on the utilization of web 2.0 collaboration tools. I thought it was wonderful as often time content from educational classes a just a bit behind. This can be expecting since technology changes so fast, it is hard to teach things that can be considered up to date. A lot of instructors are now getting comfortable with the basic collaborations tools such as forums and chat, yet the youth is now looking for newer technologies, such as mobile, text messaging, and tablets.
The website focused on the wiggio application, which for no fee, provides collaboration and communication features for education, work, and leisure.
In the education realm, The wiggio applications, would greatly serve both instructors and students, due to it's simple user interface and powerful features.
I was able to learn able other possible collaboration 2.0 technologies, some that I was familiar with, and others such as stixy and edmodo that I was able to be introduced to. The sharing of tools and ideas like this is a necessity in all learning, as it would be impossible to find out about all the different methods and tools that are out there to help us teach.
The content was very good in that it kind of kept us up to date from our courses textbook. Our textbook talked a lot about these types of future technologies, but didn't go into detail about them, probably because they had not been released at the time. It's good to see this connection, and it makes me wonder what else is coming down the line."
