Spring 2011
Heatlhy Nutrition 101 Mini Online Course, AECT Standards & Feedback
My team members included Sharice Cabral and Melissa Kunitzer. We utilized a unit from Sharice's Personal Health Course to design and develop our mini online course which was implemented during the spring semester at a large private school in Hawai`i. We also created several multimedia learning objects, an external website which mirrors the content in Laulima, and an Instructor's Guide. A schedule included in the syllabus clarifies synchronous and asynchronous activities for the course, a blog in the Laulima site encourages social learning, and downloadable PDF documents for read-write learners.
I appreciated the assignments and projects in this course because it provided a hands-on learning experience with helpful peer reviews. Valuable feedback from peers contributed to an improved version of our Laulima and external website. In particular, the Mini Online Course project allowed me to utilize and implement much of what I have learned in my first year of graduate school. Most importantly, I feel more confident about designing online courses.

Instructor Feedback
"Your team did a fantastic job in designing the healthy nutrition course. The strength is in the instructional design. The GLO's were very clear and the rubrics were appropriate for the outcomes. The syllabus is one of the best I have seen, especially with the detailed course schedule that delineated synchronous and asynchronous activities.
I would say your team has mastered Weebly. The site is well organized and the use of embedded videos was just outstanding. I also liked the multiple ways students could access pdfs and other resources through Laulima and Weebly.
Of course, there is always room for improvement. In your case, it is very minor but errant links can sometimes be frustrating. Your link to the Final Project on Week 1 and link to Final Presentation on Week 4 both go to the Home Page instead of the Final Project page. It's just a technical error that can be easily corrected."
Peer Feedback 1:
"Very well done!! All contents and information are easy to access. Your online course is simple, clean, and well put together. I like how you used weebly to organize content. It seems to be a big hit for all of our online courses. You have all the criteria for the course with great features beyond the requirements. I think you are on the right track and have a great thing going for this assignment. Keep up the hard work. I can’t wait to see the finished product and I love the videos too!"
Peer Feedback 2:
"Nicely laid out course, all criteria has been meet. PDF of course video segments well done.
Very pleasing to the eye, minimal clutter and easy to follow course site both on web page and
in laulima. Extra credit and wiki where good additions. Overall, an excellent course well put
together."
